Coordinated Observations of Rocket Exhaust Depletion: GOLD, Madrigal TEC, and Multiple Low‐Earth‐Orbit Satellites

چکیده
Abstract A plasma density hole was created in the ionosphere by a rocket launch from Cape Canaveral, Florida near local sunset on 30 August 2020, which is called exhaust depletion (RED). The persisted for several hours into night and observed total electron content (TEC) maps, Global‐scale Observations of Limb Disk (GOLD) imager, multiple low‐earth‐orbit satellites. RED nightglow pit GOLD 135.6 nm image. Swarm satellites found that exhibited insignificant changes electron/ion temperature field‐aligned currents. On other hand, magnetic field strength enhanced inside few tenths nanotesla. Assimilation data products Constellation Observing System Meteorology, Ionosphere, Climate 2 (COSMIC‐2) mission reveal ionospheric slab thickness increased at center RED, supported combined analyses TEC data. did not host conspicuous substructures are stronger longer‐lasting than ambient did.

Preonset time sequence of auroral substorms: Coordinated observations by allsky imagers, satellites, and radars
[1] Using two conjunction events of the Time History of Events and Macroscale Interactions during Substorms (THEMIS) imagers and spacecraft as well as the Super Dual Auroral Radar Network (SuperDARN) and Poker Flat Incoherent Scatter Radars, we show that longitudinally narrow flow bursts in the nightside polar cap can precede poleward boundary intensifications (PBIs) that are followed by equato...
متن کاملCoordinated Control of Satellites: the Attitude Case
In this paper an observer-controller structure for attitude synchronization of a satellite formation is presented. The design applies methods from mechanical synchronization to design a nonlinear observer and controller for satellites actuated by means of reaction wheels and magnetic torquers. In this approach one satellite is defined as the leader of the formation, while the rest are defined a...
متن کاملStratospheric Satellites for Earth Observations
O bservational systems in atmospheric science, operating from surface, manned aircraft, or satellite platforms, have advanced dramatically in the last 30 years. However, for observational systems to continue to advance, we must be open to revolutionary new possibilities just as our forebears were. Many new missions are very expensive and have had their development slowed. Now may be the opportu...
متن کاملNew Observations of Saturn's Coorbital Satellites 1
We present observations of the Saturnian coorbital satellites, Janus and Epimetheus, obtained with the Caltech Cassegrain infrared camera at the Palomar Hale telescope in July and August 1990. Exploiting the strong planetary methane and hydrogen absorption at A2.0-2.4/ tm, we observed both satellites as they passed over Saturn's north pole at superior conjunction. At that time, the bright rings...
